Original works of art will be showcased at 35 different locations during Rockford Area Arts Council?s 10th Annual Spring ArtScene Friday and Saturday, April 13-14.

Enjoy new exhibits and view and purchase original works of art in varied media of watercolor, acrylic, wood, sculpture, pottery, furniture, jewelry, photography and multi-media.

Admission is free and hours are 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 13, and 3 to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 14. Nearly 10,000 people attend ArtScene each year.

15. Irish Rose Saloon, 519 E. State St., (815) 964-0480 ? ?The Female Nude?: William Haun received his bachelor?s and master?s of fine arts degrees from Northern Illinois University in the discipline of ?Time Arts.? His primary focus was animation and video art. Since then, he has devoted much of his time to more traditional media: painting, printmaking and photography. He teaches graphic design, visual effects and video at the Illinois Institute Schaumburg and Rasmussen College in Rockford.

16. Just A Second Antiques & Accessories, 1710 N. Main St., (815) 978-3071 ? ?Second To None @ Just A Second?: Nationally-acclaimed artist Tom Heflin will be available Friday evening to sign his prints and books. Kari McDonald of The Paper Button will display fun re-purposed vintage button jewelry, and accessories, and Tina Rippy will showcase her felted wool expertise in scarves, purses and home accessories.

Katie?s Cup, 502 Seventh St., (815) 986-0628 ? ?Espress?yo Self?: Plexiglass ink paintings by Shannon Hoyt, oil paintings on archival photos by Joel Ottman, photography by Jen Gorman and mixed media pieces by Jo Huenkemeier Fox. Katie?s Cup will be open from 5-9 p.m. both nights with live music from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, and poetry from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday.

18. Kortman Gallery at J.R. Kortman Center for Design, 107 N. Main St., (815) 968-0123 ? ?Intimation(s)?: Kristy Luck?s mixed media paintings and drawings explore figure, form and space with much emphasis on materiality of paint and surface. Abstraction versus representation is a running theme throughout the works.

Since 2009, he has re-developed an interest in photography and began to explore the natural world and everyday life outside of our homes and workspaces. He has invited you to explore his gallery and to share in his continued journey of the world through his eyes.

28. Rockford Art Museum, 711 N. Main St., (815) 968-2787 ? ?Pulp and Pigment: The Realms of Roland Poska?: Rockford artist Roland Poska?s pioneering work in the field of handmade paper establishes him as an important figure throughout the Midwest and the nation. More than 80 pieces are on display, including many works that helped define his career as well as the medium of paper as an art form. Rockford College art professor David Menard guest curates. On view through May 6. ArtScene hours: Friday until 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 p.m.

29. Rockford Baha?i Center at Highcrest Shopping Center, 1650 N. Alpine Road, (815) 639-9991 ? An experience of visual arts, poetry and musical performances with an emphasis on the oppression of Iranians centered on the showing of the documentary ?Education Under Fire,? with discussions about the universal right to education. Elise Auerbach, Iran specialist for Amnesty International USA, explained: ?One of the most powerful human documentaries I have ever seen ? sure to galvanize viewers who will be exposed to an outrage that until now has received little attention ? the systematic denial of an entire religious community of the right to pursue higher education in their own country.?

30. Rockford College Art Gallery at Clark Arts Center, 5050 E. State St., (815) 226-4105 ? ?Army of Fleabag Dreamers?: Featuring the works of Rockford-based artists Eddie Fajardo, Corey Hagberg, Joseph Goral, Javier Jimenez and Larry Barr that work in the realm of graffiti street-art, including printmaking, drawing and painting. The artists will create an on-sight mural in the gallery that comments on visual culture while elevating awareness of social and political issues. Musical performances by Vic Monsta, Xen and King of the Demons on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and printmaking demonstration on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Tom Littrell Design, 317 Market St., (815) 621-4668 ? ?Play it again, Sam?: The continuing theme at ArtScene is revisited with new paintings, mixed media, prints, art glass, photography and sculpture by artists including Tom Littrell, Tabatha Dougherty, Jennifer Yakes, Lenny French, Therese Rowinski, Charles Finch, Jakob Potter, Meico Gowan, Ron Clevenger, Liz Iven, Tom Smith, Diane Tepper and, of course, some ?artists at work? (maybe you) with a backdrop of ?musical ramblings.? All showcased with the interior design elements of beautiful fabrics and wall coverings.
