State women?s college basketball: Utah earns first Pac-12 victory

Led by Janita Badon?s 16 points, the Utah women?s basketball team earned it?s first-ever Pac-12 Conference victory by beating Washington 49-36 in overtime Saturday in Seattle.

The Utes overcame a five-point deficit with 1:32 left in regulation, with Badon tying the game with a three-pointer. In the extra period. Utah (8-6, 1-2 Pac 12) went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line while holding the Huskies to just four points.

In the first half, Badon became the 22nd Ute to score 1,000 points for her career. Michelle Plouffe added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

BYU 76, San Francisco 67 ? Kristin Riley scored 19 points and Haley Steed added 13 points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Cougars to an easy West Coast Conference victory in San Francisco.

Ahead 38-32 at halftime, BYU went on a 33-14 run to take a 25-point lead for its biggest lead of the game. The Cougars improved to 14-3, 3-1 in WCC play.

Utah State 61, Utah Valley 43 ? Ashlee Brown and Brooke Jackson each scored 13 points to lead the host Aggies to their fourth consecutive victory.

Neither team shot well, with USU going 32.1 percent from the field compared to UVU?s 28 percent. The Aggies outrebounded the Wolverines 47-34. Utah State is now 6-0 when outrebounding its opponent this season.

Elise Nelson scored 12 points and Maddy Plunkett added 10 for the Aggies, who improved to 9-5 with the nonconference victory over their in-state rival.

Whitney Jenkins came off the bench to score nine points for the Wolverines (6-9). UVU leading scorer Sammie Jensen was held to just seven points but pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Portland State 66, Weber State 56 ? The Wildcats fell behind by 13 at halftime and couldn?t recover at home.

Mikell Woodfield led the Wildcats (2-14, 0-3 Big Sky)with 17 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Hughes added 10 points and eight rebounds.

North Dakota State 80, Southern Utah 68 ? The Bison went 11-for-18 from three-point range and pulled away from the Thunderbirds in the second half in Cedar City. Hailey Mandelko scored 15 points, and Kimie Hawkins grabbed 14 rebounds for Southern Utah (4-11, 0-4 Summit League).

Dixie State 76, Notre Dame de Namur 63 ? Erica Hayes scored a career-high 23 points and Becca Thomas added 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Red Storm won in Belmont, Calif.

The Red Storm uses an 11-1 run to open a 52-43 lead with 10:38 left in the game. Dixie (8-4, 3-1 PacWest) outrebounded the Argonauts 48-31.

Westminster 71, Montana Western 63 ? Dana Bates collected 16 points and eight rebounds as the Griffins (9-6, 2-0 Frontier) won in Dillon, Mont.

North Idaho 62, SLCC 57 ? Sophia Hepworth and Nicole Newbold each scored 11 points in a losing effort for Salt Lake Community College (9-6, 0-2 Scenic West) in Coeur d?Alene, Idaho.
