4LAKids - some of the news that doesn't fit: SAVE THE ARTS BENEFIT ...

Save the Arts is an organization dedicated to keeping the arts in education.

A song famously starts with the lyrics, ?I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.?

?

GREATEST LOVE OF ALL

words and music by Michael Masser and? Linda Creed

I believe the children are our are future

Teach them well and let them lead the way

Show them all the beauty they possess inside

Give them a sense of pride to make it easier

Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be.

Part of teaching our children well is giving them a well-rounded education.

Education, and students? rights to a well-rounded education have become the civil rights issue of our time.

All monies earned from this benefit will go directly to the Arts Education Branch at Los Angeles Unified School District to help ensure that all children receive the arts, not just a select few. The Arts Education Branch provides children from kindergarten to twelfth grade with instruction in Dance, Visual Arts, Theatre, and Music. This benefit will showcase the achievements of Arts Program students as well as the talents of those who are committed to developing an appreciation of the arts in our children.?

Due to the current economic situation and budget cuts to education, our children are in danger of losing a wonderful Arts Education Program. All of the arts come together to help educate the whole child and allow children the opportunity to be creative and imaginative in myriad ways.

The arts teach empathy, kindness, tolerance, patience, teamwork, and compassion. The arts are the great equalizer. You don't have to be rich or an academic scholar to be creative and gifted in the performing and visual arts, you just are. For many children, the arts are a lifeline. If the Arts Education Branch is cut as drastically as planned, our children will lose this important component of their educational experience. Some students' parents will have the resources to expose them to the arts through other means, while most other children will be left without this important part of their educational development.

In the city known as the entertainment capital of the world, I believe that we have the power to help keep the arts in our public schools.

Already, Debbie Allen is participating, The Groundlings Theatre is in support of our venture and will mount a show to help us raise funds. Also, FunnyOrDie will soon be uploading a video called ?Glum? in support of our cause.

4LAKids joins with Save the Arts to say: Come, be a part of the?Save The Arts? Benefit by attending the event.
