CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Chivas USA hired Jose Luis Sanchez Sola as its coach Wednesday.
Known as "El Chelis," Sanchez Sola says he wants to implement a more appealing style of play for the team's fans. He has six years of head coaching experience in Mexico's first division. The 53-year-old coach never played professional soccer.
He coached second-tier Correcaminos this year and Estudiantes in the 2011 Clausura season. He coached Puebla from 2006-10, leading the team to Interliga, Superliga and Bicentenario tournaments.
Sanchez Sola replaces Robin Fraser, who was fired last month along with three other staffers. Chivas USA finished last in the Western Conference this season with a 7-18-9 record.
